Fields of Mistria March Romance Guide: Gifts, Heart Events, Dating and Marriage
Fields of Mistria
By Playnoria·Published
Win over Mistria's guarded blacksmith with the right gifts, clear every March heart event, start dating, craft the engagement ring, and plan your wedding.
To romance March in Fields of Mistria, talk to him daily and give him ore-based gifts until you reach eight hearts. Complete his eight-heart event after progressing beyond floor 60 of the Mines, choose the romantic response, reach ten hearts, and craft an Engagement Ring to begin his proposal event. Perfect Copper Ore is his most practical repeatable loved gift; ordinary Copper Ore and Beer are easier liked alternatives.
Version: Verified for Fields of Mistria 1.0.3 on August 18, 2026. Version 1.0 added ten-heart proposals, weddings, marriage, children, and post-marriage routines. Patch 1.0.3 fixed a visual issue in March's eight-heart event and prevents festival setup days from being selected as wedding dates.
Spoiler policy: This guide names each event, requirement, location, and reward. Story summaries stay deliberately light, but the dating and proposal choices are explained so you do not accidentally select the platonic route.
March romance quick facts
Detail
Fastest way to romance March
March is easiest to befriend alongside normal Mine progression because most of his convenient gifts are ores and ingots. Use this route:
Speak to March once every day. The first daily conversation awards friendship progress.
Give him one gift per day. Gifts can be repeated without a penalty.
Save Perfect Copper Ore. Donate your first copy if you are completing the Museum, then reserve duplicates for March.
A loved gift awards more friendship than a liked one, but consistency matters more than waiting indefinitely for a perfect item. Regular Copper Ore is available early and is an efficient fallback whenever Perfect Copper Ore refuses to drop.

March's loved gifts
Loved gift
Perfect Copper Ore is the best general recommendation, not because it gives more friendship than March's other loved gifts, but because Copper nodes appear in the first Mine biome. Gold and Mistril products are expensive progression materials, while Meteorite and the Dragon-Forged Bracelet depend on rare archaeology finds.
March's liked gifts
March likes the following items:
Beer
Chocolate
Chocolate Cake
Coffee
Copper Ingot
For a low-effort routine, carry a stack of whichever regular ore matches your current Mine biome. Beer is a useful shop-bought alternative if you need a gift immediately, while Coffee and Chocolate can cover days when you do not plan to mine.
Gifts March dislikes or hates
March dislikes flowers, forageables, and artifacts that are not specifically listed among his loved gifts. His hated gift is the Redhead Worm.
Disliked and hated gifts do not reduce friendship, but they provide no normal friendship progress. There is therefore no advantage to testing random flowers or forageables on him once you know his preferences.
Best gift for March's birthday
March's birthday is Spring 16. Give him a loved gift if you have one because birthdays add a bonus on top of the gift's normal friendship value.
Your best first-year options are:
Perfect Copper Ore: Best outcome if the Mines are open and one has dropped from a Copper node.
Copper Ore: Easy liked option that does not consume an ingot needed for tools or repairs.
Beer: Convenient liked fallback available without relying on Mine drops.
Do not sacrifice an essential tool upgrade just to turn ore into an ingot for his first birthday. A liked Copper Ore plus the birthday bonus is still useful progress, and you can begin giving Perfect Copper Ore later.
Every March heart event and requirement
March's first three heart events arrive as quests through the mail. His eight-heart event adds a Mine progression requirement and occupies the rest of the day, while the ten-heart event begins when you present an Engagement Ring.
Hearts
Two hearts: Surprise Me
After reaching two hearts, March sends a blunt letter asking you to meet him at the Blacksmith. Enter the shop to start Surprise Me. The conversation establishes his competitive attitude and gives you dialogue choices, but those responses do not block the rest of his route.
The event rewards a Copper Hoe with the Lightweight infusion, making March's first event useful even if you are not yet committed to romancing him.
Four hearts: Many Hands Make Light Work
At four hearts, Olric sends the invitation for Many Hands Make Light Work. Enter the Blacksmith's Forge to help the brothers work through their orders. This event has no additional material or Mine requirement.
Four hearts also makes March available for two seasonal romantic moments:
Invite him to the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.
Invite him to dance at the Harvest Festival on Fall 10.
These festival scenes are separate from the numbered heart quests. Missing one does not end March's romance route, although later dialogue can acknowledge whether you attended together.
Six hearts: Shield of the Realm
March sends another short letter at six hearts, offering part-time work. Enter the Blacksmith to start Shield of the Realm, where you help with an urgent commission. No special items need to be brought to the event.
Eight hearts: Confession
March's eight-heart event has the route's most important progression gate: you must have gone beyond floor 60 of the Mines. When both conditions are satisfied, leave the farmhouse the following morning to begin the event.
Set aside the day before triggering it. The sequence lasts until midnight, although version 1.0 automatically feeds your animals and waters your crops during March's event.
Near the end, choose the response that pursues a romantic relationship if you want to date March. Choosing the platonic option makes the two of you Best Friends instead. Ordinary dialogue earlier in his route does not decide this status—the explicit eight-heart choice does.
If the event does not trigger, continue Mine progression, sleep, and leave the farmhouse on a normal morning. Patch 1.0.3 fixed a visual problem in this scene, so update the game before troubleshooting older graphical issues.
How dating March works
After selecting romance during the eight-heart event, March's relationship status changes to Dating. You can then interact with him for romantic dialogue and kisses, and dates become an efficient way to reach ten hearts.
Dating March does not immediately prevent you from dating other candidates. The permanent decision comes when you confirm an engagement. By default, other people you were dating change to Best Friends after engagement. Version 1.0 also added settings that can suppress the breakup letters or disable that status change, but the relevant toggle must be chosen before confirming the engagement.
How to marry March
You need all of the following before you can propose:
Dating status with March
Ten hearts with March
The Engagement Ring recipe from Elsie
Access to the Dragon-Forged Core recipe through late Mine progression
The morning after you reach ten hearts with someone you are dating, Elsie visits and gives you the Engagement Ring recipe scroll. Use the scroll, then craft the ring at a normal blacksmithing station.
Engagement Ring recipe
Material
The Dragon-Forged Core is crafted at the Dragon Forge on Mine floor 90, but its recipe is tied to reaching floor 100. It requires:
Dragon-Forged Core material
In total, reserve five Mistril Ingots—four for the ring and one for its Dragon-Forged Core.
March's ten-heart proposal event
Give March the Engagement Ring at ten hearts to begin his proposal event. He takes you to the Summit and gives you March's Mistrian Shield, a decorative keepsake he designed.
The event gives you a chance to confirm the proposal or wait. Waiting does not consume your opportunity: version 1.0 allows ten-heart proposal events to be retriggered with the ring until you choose to become engaged. This also means players dating several candidates can view their events and collect their special items before committing.
March wedding choices and rewards
Speak to March on three of the days leading up to the ceremony to customize the wedding:
Choice
Olric and Ryis feature in March's wedding party, and Olric gives the reception toast. After marriage, March adds character-specific furniture and work space to your home.
March's marriage items are:
March's Mistrian Shield from the proposal
March's Desk
March's Comfy Chair
March's Forge
Patch 1.0.3 prevents Spring 14, Fall 7, and Winter 7 from being selected as wedding days because those dates are used to prepare for festivals. If an older save already selected one of those dates, the affected festival will not begin correctly that year but will work again in later years.
Life with March after marriage
Version 1.0 adds post-marriage dialogue and NPC routines, so March continues to follow a character-specific schedule rather than becoming a static house resident. You can keep talking to, kissing, and giving gifts to him after the wedding.
Having a child is optional. In the weeks after marriage, a cutscene makes the Mystical Feather available and opens a family-planning conversation. You can decline if you do not want children; marriage to March does not force that progression.

March romance FAQ
What is the best gift for March in Fields of Mistria?
Perfect Copper Ore is the best practical gift for March because it is a loved item available from Copper nodes in the Upper Mines. All loved gifts award the same normal friendship value, but Perfect Copper Ore becomes obtainable much earlier than Gold, Mistril, and most rare artifacts.
What does March like besides ore?
March likes Beer, Chocolate, Chocolate Cake, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Mocha, and several seafood dishes. These are useful alternatives when you do not want to spend ore or ingots.
When is March's birthday?
March's birthday is Spring 16. A loved gift such as Perfect Copper Ore receives the best birthday result, but regular Copper Ore or Beer is a convenient liked fallback.
How do you trigger March's eight-heart event?
Reach eight hearts with March and progress beyond floor 60 of the Mines. After both requirements are complete, leave the farmhouse the following morning. The event consumes the remainder of the day.
Can you date March without completing the Mines?
You can build March's friendship to eight hearts, but you cannot complete his confession event and begin dating until you have progressed beyond Mine floor 60. Marriage requires even deeper progress because the Dragon-Forged Core recipe is tied to reaching floor 100.
Can any player character marry March?
Yes. Fields of Mistria does not restrict marriage candidates by the player's gender or pronouns.
Can you date March and other characters at the same time?
Yes, you can date multiple candidates before engagement. When you become engaged, other dating relationships change to Best Friends by default, although version 1.0 added settings that can alter the letters and status change.
Do March's dialogue choices affect friendship?
Normal dialogue choices in his early heart events do not add or remove friendship points. The important exception is the explicit route choice during the eight-heart event, where you decide between Dating and Best Friends, followed by the commitment choice during his proposal event.
Do you have to have children after marrying March?
No. The Mystical Feather opens an optional family-planning conversation after marriage, and the game lets you decline.
Final takeaway
March's route rewards players who combine romance with Mine progression. Talk to him daily, give him repeatable ore gifts, save a loved item for Spring 16, and descend past floor 60 before reaching eight hearts. Choose romance during Confession, use dates to reach ten hearts, then finish the Mines and craft the Engagement Ring.
Perfect Copper Ore is the efficient early gift, but the real bottleneck is progression—not affection. If you keep the Mines moving alongside March's heart events, you will be ready to propose as soon as the late-game ring materials come together.
